Maria Cirlot Wilson is our 2016-2017 Teacher of the Year. This is her 39th year to teach, with this being her 10th year serving East Central Lower Elementary. During the thirty-nine years, she has taught kindergarten through high school resource, 3rd grade self-contained, kindergarten self-contained, 5th grade team teaching, kindergarten through fifth grade inclusion, and Job Corp GED classes. Mrs. Wilson has served as Team Leader, Mentor Teacher, PLC Team Leader, and on the ECLE Vision Team. She is a member of the ECLE PTO, and has been a member of The Council of Exceptional Children throughout her career. She received her Bachelor of Science Special Education- SLD, MID, MOD degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, Emotional and Behavior Disorder Certification from West Georgia University, Elementary Education Certification from the State of Georgia, and her Master of Education from Central Michigan University. She continues her education through educational workshops and courses. Mrs. Wilson has been married to Bill Wilson for 33 years. Together they have a daughter April(28), son Evans(31), his wife Margo, and grandson Will.
Mrs. Wilson has taught from the state of Washington to central Florida, and she chose Jackson County Schools for her last decade of teaching. She feels privileged to work with the dedicated educators here at ECLE. Mrs. Wilson believes that God guided her career to gain knowledge, and that it is her responsibility to share it with each individual child. She is dedicated to encouraging each child to strive to be their best. She loves every student at ECLE, and she hopes they learn the joy of learning through her example.
