The Jackson County Board of Education met in Regular Session on Monday, November 10, 2008, at 5:00 p.m. at East Central High School Cafeteria, 21700 Slider Road, Hurley, MS 39555.

The meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. by Chairman Kenneth A. Fountain. Board Member Tootle gave the invocation. Board Member Turner asked for a moment of silence for Pattie Ezell, teacher at Vancleave Lower Elementary School and all veterans and then led the Pledge of Allegiance.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS AND CELEBRATIONS: Schools, groups, students and employees were recognized by the board and the administrators for recent achievements and accomplishments, as shown on page 53A.

EAST CENTRAL CURRICULUM PRESENTATION: The East Central High School Players (drama club), directed by Ms. Kristal Sisson, preformed two skits for the board. The East Central High School Players have competed in several local and regional contests.

WORKERS COMPENSATION UPDATE and SAFETY INCIDENTS: Laura McCool updated the board on workers compensation insurance and accidents for the month of October, as shown on page 53B. The board requested monthly updates. The safety incidents were discussed. Board Member Fountain pointed out that if an incident is reported and it is no fault of the employee, there should be no penalty to the attendance center in the competition for the safety award grant. The board asked Ms. McCool to review the rules and bring a revised safety award policy to the board.

TEST SCORES PRESENTATION: Dr. Lisa McCartney presented ACT Scores, Advanced Scores, and Act Data - Coastal Area Schools 2004 - 2008, as shown on page 53C.

  • The Java Programming class in which student is dually enrolled will count as an E-1 Course.
