The Jackson County Board of Education met in Regular Session on Thursday, April 16, 2009, at 5:00 p.m. at the Jackson County Board of Education Building, 4700 Colonel Vickrey Road, Vancleave, Ms 39565.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS AND CELEBRATIONS: Superintendent's Attendance Awards and Celebrations were presented as shown on page 75-A.

Hattiesburg Public School District were present as visitors.

Lynn Brewer, Principal, East Central Upper Elementary, introduced Beverly Adkinson, Arts and Science teacher. Ms. Adkinson explained her program and introduced several students that have excelled in the areas of science and arts.

Dr. Lisa McCartney introduced Megan Trochesset, English teacher at St. Martin High School. Ms. Trochesset presented the board with information on Easy Progress Monitoring and how it is being used as a teaching tool.


Laura McCool presented the current Workers Compensation report indicating a 58% reduction in reported accidents and injuries.

ELEY GUILD HARDY

Quint Moran gave the board a recap of the progress at St. Martin High School and the additional classrooms at Vancleave Attendance Center.

St. Martin High School Bus Maintenance Facility: Jennifer Seymour, Eley Guild Hardy, advised the board that the contract with J.W. Puckett is in place. J.W. Puckett has asked to delay the notice to proceed as a result of the delay in permits. J.W. Puckett has reallocated their crew to other jobs because of this delay. J.W. Puckett will have the employees in place by the end of April. The board asked Dr. Amacker to contact the Jackson County Board of Supervisors to request that the permit for the bus maintenance facility be issued immediately.

The proposal for the 5 Year Plan presented at the March 16, 2009 board meeting will be completed within one week.

f.y.i. Board Vision Planning: As shown on page 75F. Board Chairman Fountain asked that Eley Guild Hardy provide a quote for environmental studies and core samples for East Central. Board Member Dickerson asked that new aerial maps be provided. Board Member Tootle asked that Eley Guild Hardy redesign the plan for Vancleave Schools to move the high school closer to the main road. Board Member Sims and Board Member Turner asked that Eley Guild Hardy redesign the access to the new sites for St. Martin Schools to allow entrance from the south.

Tommy Fairfield - Jackson County Utility Authority: Several questions were presented by Board Members. Mr. Fairfield and Jessica Dupont, Attorney for Jackson County Utility Authority, will obtain answers to these questions and appear at the May 11, 2009 board meeting.
