The Jackson County Board of Education met in Regular Session on Monday, April 04, 2005, at 5:00 p.m. at the Jackson County Board of Education Building, 12210 Colonel Vickrey Road,Vancleave, Mississippi.

The meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. by chairman, Kenneth A. Fountain. Board member Owenby gave the invocation and Board member Sims led the Pledge.

MINUTES - MARCH 14, 2005: Motion by Owenby, second by Tootle to approve the Minutes for March 14, 2005 as presented, with the following vote taken:

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS AND CELEBRATIONS: The following individuals, teams, or groups were recognized by administrators for recent achievements and accomplishments and were acknowledged by the Board, as shown on page 100-A

CURRICULUM PRESENTATION - VANCLEAVE- Leigh Davis, Vancleave Middle School teacher, presented an overview of a reading project developed for her class. It is a create a book project which uses several skills such as Art, Computer, Language, and Typing.

APPROVE TREE REMOVAL ON 16TH SECTION LAND - Motion by Turner, second by Sims, to approve the tree removal on 16th section land, as shown on page 100-B, with the following vote taken:

MARGARET BUSH - GED REPORT - Margaret Bush, Assistant Superintendent presented an updated GED report to the board. East Central had 4 students attend MGCCC for testing, Vancleave had 4 students attend MGCCC for testing and St. Martin had 5 students attend MGCCC for testing. All 13 students were successful and passed all sections. Current enrollment information is as follows: St. Martin - 13, Vancleave - 11, East Central - 15. There are 5 students on the waiting list at East Central.

Margaret Bush stated that some students have said that this GED program has prevented them from dropping out of school and they have found this program helpful in preparing them for a better future. Mrs. Bush recognized all the teachers for their hard work as well as Carol Rudolph for her help with all the computers. Board member, Randal Turner recommended a special certificate be decided upon to recognize these students for all their hard work.

SIXTEENTH SECTION:

APPROVE TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS ON HUNTING AND FISHING LEASE - RATTLESNAKE HILL HUNTING CLUB: Motion by Sims, second by Turner to approve to advertise for bids on Hunting and Fishing Lease - Rattlesnake Hill Hunting Club, as shown on page 100-C, with the following vote taken:

Recommended base bid work for Classrooms, Office/Library inclusive of the ERV units, along with the fencing alternate, ceiling, and lighting alternates with the following vote taken, as shown on page 100-D

STUDIO SOUTH / YATES CONSTRUCTION - ADDITIONS AND RENOVATIONS TO JACKSON COUNTY SCHOOL CAMPUSES: (no action taken) Recommended by the board to bid projects by General Contractor and Construction Manager and a comparison of the cost will be made. Advertise Vancleave Lower individually and both St. Martin Cafeteria's together and the Vancleave Gymnasium will be reviewed after the St. Martin Cafeterias, as shown on page 100-E

MIGRANT PROGRAM: Mr. Rucks Robinson stated that all Migrant programs will be administered by Community Colleges or Universities. Jackson County School District will be closing out the Migrant program. However, we must look at possible placements for the Migrant Director and Assistant Director which were previously recommended.
