The Jackson County Board of Education met in Regular Session on Monday, March 24, 2008, at 5:00 p.m. at the Jackson County Board of Education Building, 4700 Colonel Vickrey Road, Vancleave, Ms 39565

The meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. by Chairman, Kenneth A. Fountain. Mr.Dickerson gave the invocation and Mr. Sims led the Pledge of Allegiance.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS AND CELEBRATIONS: The following individuals, teams and groups were recognized by administrators for recent achievements and accomplishments and were acknowledged by the Board, as shown on page 130A.

CURRICULUM PRESENTATION: Dr. Lisa McCartney

Dr. McCartney presented test scores for reading, language and math for grades second through eighth. Dr. McCartney also presented a composite of ACT scores for the coastal school districts as shown on page 130B.

NEW POLICY PRESENTATION: Lynn Brewer

Ms. Brewer presented the Job Description for Homebound Teacher. Policy GFBCH describes the requirements for the position as shown on page 130C.

NEW POLICY PRESENTATION: Margaret Bush

Ms. Bush presented two new policies for board review. IDAC -Preschool Ages Birth to 5 and IDAD - Child Find Procedures as shown on page 130D.

APPROVE INCREASE IN TEACHER ALLOCATIONS FOR 2008-2009: Motion by Sims, second by Tootle, with the following vote taken:

Motion made by Dickerson, second by Turner, to move forward the Proposed Drainage Ditch - MS Export RR and MS Power Company with the following vote taken:

Seimens Presentation:

Matt Ridley reconfirmed the commitment from Seimens to Jackson County School District. He also reported that a substantial portion of the contract had been completed in January. Seimens vowed to continue to make every effort to ensure proper operation of the items addressed in the contract with Jackson County School District.

Guild Hardy Architect

Quint Moran presented three options for additions to East Central Lower Elementary School. Mr. Vecchio, East Central Attendance Center Assistant Superintendent and Mrs. Tanner, Principal, East Central Lower Elementary School gave the opinion that Option # 2 was the most workable plan as shown on page 130E.

Mr. Moran also presented two options for Vancleave High School additions. Mr. Holmes, Vancleave Assistant Superintendent, told the board that Option #2 was the plan that would best accommodate the need of Vancleave High School, as shown on page 130F.

The board requested Mr. Vecchio and Mr. Holmes to present projected student population numbers at the next board meeting.

Future Building Plans:

Diane Novak presented several recommended upgrades for the technology center. After much discussion, the board asked Ms. Novak to come to the next board meeting with exact requirements and cost for the upgrades.
