The Jackson County Board of Education met in Regular Session on Monday, February 18, 2008, at 5:00 p.m. at the Jackson County Board of Education Building, 4700 Colonel Vickrey Road, Vancleave, Ms 39565

The meeting was called to order at 5:03 p.m. by chairman, Kenneth A. Fountain. Board member Dickerson gave the invocation and Board member Sims led the Pledge of Allegiance.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS AND CELEBRATIONS: The following individuals, teams and groups were recognized by administrators for recent achievements and accomplishments and were acknowledged by the Board, as shown on page 106-A

CURRICULUM PRESENTATION - EAST CENTRAL UPPER ELEMENTARY: Jean Adkison, the science/art lab teacher at East Central Upper presented to the board a power point presentation on science experiments/art concepts taught in her lab, allowing students the opportunity to compete in the Regional/County fairs. The students also learn about wetlands and conservation. Most of the innovative science materials, games and art materials used, help students with tested skills. This lab also allows the students to experience art and science in a new way.

SAFETY INCIDENTS: As presented, shown on page 106-B

FIRE/WINDSTORM INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR MODULAR UNITS: The Fire/Windstorm insurance/policy was renewed for the modular units at St. Martin. The Board questioned if this policy could be rolled into our Property and Casualty policy which renews October 1, 2008. Mrs. McCool stated that she could cancel the policy for the modular units, should we receive a better premium. The Board also asked about the MSBA P & C pool that has an effective date of July 1, 2008. Mrs. McCool told the Board that we could cancel both our present P & C and the policy on the modular units on June 30, 2008, should we decide to join the MSBA pool.

F.Y.I. SEIMENS UPDATE: Kion Davis gave an update to the board. He reported that the Assistant Superintendents and maintenance personnel at all three attendance centers have been trained. He indicated that by the March board meeting, we would be at 100% completion as outlined in our contract.
