The Jackson County Board of Education met in Regular Session on Monday, January 28, 2008, at 5:00 p.m. at the Jackson County Board of Education Building, 4700 Colonel Vickrey Road, Vancleave, Ms 39565

The meeting was called to order at 5:05 p.m. by chairman, Kenneth A. Fountain. Board member Turner gave the invocation and Board member Dickerson led the Pledge of Allegiance.

CONSTRUCTION IN PROGRESS: Mr. Dickerson questioned if everyone was satisfied with the status of Seimens. Mr. Fountain requested Siemens to give an update at the next board meeting. Presented for board review, as shown on page 90-B

F.Y.I. - SMHS NEW CONSTRUCTION PHONE SYSTEM: As presented, shown on page 90-D

F.Y.I. Dr. McCartney, Curriculum Director, presented to the board a powerpoint presentation on test scores from 2003-2007. Data was presented on the MCT, SATP, and the MS Science and Writing assessments, as shown on page 90-E

HURRICANE EDUCATOR ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (HEAP) APPPLICATION: As presented, shown on page 90-F

NEW POLICIES PRESENTED FOR BOARD REVIEW: No action taken, presented for board review.

F.Y.I. - LEMOYNE SCHOOL PROPERTY REVITALIZATION PROJECT: There was discussion by the board as to what the plans are for this project. Also discussed was the need to work with the Jackson County Recreational Department as well as getting the county involved in the issue regarding rerouting the road that leads to St. Martin North Elementary.

Update on Building Projects / Jennifer Seymour

Jennifer Seymour reported that she had received a couple of prior approvals but at this point no one had met the specifications required for the flooring of the gym of the new St. Martin High School. This was in answer to Mr. Dickerson's questions regarding once source items and building specifications.

Future Building Plans

Dr. Amacker reported that he has asked the Assistant Superintendents to establish a vision team (in their area) to look at their building needs. He wants them to determine what their immediate needs are as well as their long-term future/needs. Over the next few board meetings, the Assistant Superintendents will bring back to the board what has been determined as their needs. He also noted that the five year plan had been put on hold due to Hurricane Katrina and it was time to proceed with this plan.

Student will not be able to attend East Central School this year. If all residency requirements are met, she will be able to attend East Central in August 2008. Parents should appeal to Pascagoula School Board for possible services for the remainder of the year.

B. Janelle Harris - Student will receive an expedited evaluation for possible special education testing. No board action was taken.

C. Angela Bryan - There has been no violation of school board policy. After school tutoring will be conducted by Mrs. Bardwell.
