TESTING

JACKSON COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT

The Jackson County School District administers a comprehensive student assessment program in accordance with the provisions of the Mississippi Department of Education regulations and the requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. The testing program is divided into two major components: The Grade Level Testing Program (GLTP) and the Subject Area Testing Program (SATP).

The Grade Level Testing Program is administered to all students in grades 3-8, including special education students whose Individual Educatin Plan (IEP) specify instructional goals that are aligned with the 2006 Mississippi Language Arts Framework revised and the 2007 Mississippi Mathematics Frameworks Revised for the aforementioned grades. The GLTP consists of the Mississippi Curriculum Test (MCT2), The Writing Assessment Program for grades 4 and 7 and the Elementary and Middle Grades Science ASsessment for grades 5 and 8.  The results of the MCT2 are used in the Mississippi Statewide Accountability System and allows Mississippi to be in compliance with the requirements of No Child Left Behind.

The Subject Area Testing Program (SATP) consists of four academic, end-of-course tests.  Since the 2001-2002 school year, students have been required to pass the subject area test(s) as a requirement for graduation.  Students are assessed on the content at the completion of the course in Algebra I, Biology I, English II, and U. S. History from 1877.  As part of the No Child Left Behine (NCLB) and Title I requirements, all students who are enrolled in Algebra I and English II (multiple-choice only) for the first time must be tested.  The scores of all these first-time test takers must be included in the annual report cards and Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) calculations to comply with the federal law.

Additional assessments include the WIDA (World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment) for all students identified as English Language Learners.  This assessment tests English language proficiency as aligned by ELL standards.
