ACCREDITATION

JACKSON COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT

The schools in the Jackson County School District are accredited by the Mississippi Department of Education in accordance with provisions of the Mississippi Public School Accountability Standards. Each school district in the state is assigned a status based on compliance with a set of “process standards” which are mandatory. In addition, beginning in the 2003-2004 school year each school will receive a performance classification based on student test score data from the previous school year.

Until 1999 the Mississippi Department of Education assigned similar performance classifications to entire school districts. In 1999, the last year of that process, the Jackson County School District was one of only 13 districts in the state to receive a perfect rating of 5.

The high schools in the district are also accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). SACS has standards that each accredited school throughout the southeastern United States must meet in order to be fully accredited.
