Virtual Field Trips

JACKSON COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT

Jackson County School District has allocated funding for each school so classes can participate in virtual field trips to enhance student engagement.

What is a Virtual Field Trip or video conference?  A virtual field trip or video conference gives you and your students an opportunity to visit a place you might not be able to otherwise, such as zoos, museums, NASA, U.S. Congress and more.  The sky is pretty much the limit!!!  Also, you could collaborate with other classrooms in the US or in a foreign country.

Purchase Orders are a must.  Field trip providers must accept purchase orders for you to be able to pay for the trip.  They will invoice us; therefore, we MUST have a PO in place prior to the invoice.

Field trip information is found at http://cilc.org .  Click on “Content for Students”, “Content Provider Programs”, put subject in keyword, click on “search”.  A listing of programs will show.  At this time you can click on the specific programs to see if the program will meet your needs. 

Information needed to request a trip:
            1.   When completing the form, choose the interactive only session.
            2.   Requesting organization:  Our district is listed so put Jackson County School 

                  District.
            3.   Person to receive program information and materials and proogram
                  evaluation:  This should be the educator who will actually participate in the
                  program.
            4.   Additional information space:  Put your school name,
                  point- to-point IP connection (prefer we dial them, but special arrangements
                  be made for them to dial in), particular unit of study, special needs of
                  participants, or any other info you think the field trip provider might need.
            5.   Don’t list PO, we do that when we get the provider information.
            6.   Next

  Use the existing billing information.  It needs to come to
                   Carol Rudolph, unless it is being paid out of
other funding.

            9.   Review the information for accuracy
          10.   Print a copy of your request
          11.   Click on “Forward for pin authorization”
We have a JC pin. 
          12.   The application acknowledgement is e-mailed to the technology
                   department  for confirmation and PIN number.           
          13.    We will process the purchase order and send it to the provider.
          14.    A test call is always needed prior to the VFT.  Remember to
                   to keep Dana and/or me aware of the date of your VFT.  We’ll
                   come help you with the equipment, the test call, and the actual trip.

Bright Idea:  Connect the DL equipment to your projectors and have a BIG screen VFT on your ACTIVBoard.
Tell the person that comes to do your test call you want to connect to the ACTIVBoard for your VFT.  He/She needs to know this so he/she can get to your school early to connect to the ACTIVBoard on the day of the program.
