What is Title I?
Title I is the largest program of federal funding in education. The funding is designed to support schools in providing materials and instruction to students. Title I encourages and supports the involvement of parents in areas such as school level planning and implementing initiatives to improve student achievement.

How can schools spend these funds?
The purpose of Title I is to assist schools in strengthening student achievement, staff development and parental involvement. Schools utilize Title I funds in various ways to enhance the regular district instructional program.

How does SMEE use these funds?
Our site uses Title I funds to:

  • Provide a Skills Lab

The Fast ForWord program develops a student's memory, attention, and sequencing skills. The strengthening of these skills results in a wide range of improved skills which support our students in becoming better readers.

  • Provide a Compass Lab

Compass tests each child to measure his/her placement in areas of reading, language and math. Each student progresses at his/her own pace with individualized instruction.

  • Provide a Parent Resource Center

We have a variety of materials available for checkout. Learning games, videos, book & tape sets, manipulatives, flashcards, etc. are available for both math and reading areas.

  • Reduce Class Size

We have additional teachers and support staff with salaries funded through Title I. This allows our students to have access to small group and one-on-one instruction.

  • Tutoring

Students requiring extra support receive tutoring.

  • Professional Development

Teachers and assistants receive additional training through workshops, conferences, and reading materials.

  • Professional Resources

These funds are used for books, manipulatives, technology and many other resources that your children have access to on a daily basis.

Your Involvement is Critical!
Research shows that students with parents who are involved in their child's education are more likely to succeed in school. They are also more likely to stay in school until graduation.

How can you be involved?
There are many ways to be involved with your child's education.
