Middle School Procedures
Telephone Calls
Telephones in the office are continuously busy. Students
are discouraged from leaving class to use the phone unless the student
is sick or has an emergency. Students are allowed to use the phone in
Mrs. Cunningham's office at break and at lunch (for school related reasons
only). They are not allowed to use the phone
between classes.Please
help encourage students to comply with this procedure. Students who
are sick should use the phone in Mrs. Cunningham's office so we can make
the parents aware of their child's illness.
Bus Change Procedure
If a student has a note to ride a different bus, send that student only
(no escorts please) to Mrs. Cunningham's office by 9:00 (or A.S.A.P.)
in order for verification to be complete by the end of the day.
Buses
All bus matters, except for bus change notes, are handled by Mike Polk.
Mr. Polk is our EC transportation supervisor. Discipline procedures are
outlined in the student handbook. The number for transportation is 588-7032.
Uniform Dress Code
Please see the student handbook. Remember that this is available online.
Students Leaving Campus
NO Student (except an assigned office aide) is to leave our campus and
go to the Upper Elementary
FOR ANY REASON. If students are absent
from our campus without
PROPER permission then discipline action
will be taken. We are considered a closed campus and we are detached
from the Upper Elementary; therefore, liability and accountability are
concerns. Likewise, students are not allowed to walk to the High School
during or after school. If a student needs to go to the High School or
Lower Elementary they must ride a bus, following the usual bus procedure.
Medical Concerns
All medical concerns/injuries need to be addressed to Mrs. Corkhill's
office. All student medication is handled here.
Communication Is the Key to a Good School Year
Effective communication with the school is encouraged and is a key component
to your child's success. It is helpful to know whom to contact on what
issues. Homework and other classroom related issues are best directed
to the teacher. To arrange a teacher/parent conference call Mrs. Bullock
at 588-7035.
Questions and concerns about the schedule, child development, social
and emotional issues that are affecting your child are important to communicate
to the counselor (588-7015). Curriculum and discipline questions should
be answered by an administrator.
Teachers need to be able to contact parents! Please give your child's
teachers multiple ways to contact you. Cell phones and E-mail are a great
way to keep in touch. All of our teachers want to help you help your child.

The media center is the heart of the school. It includes a large book
collection, computers, study areas, and is used extensively for research
and long-term projects by all grades. AR books are clearly marked and
computers may be used to complete tests. Digital Curriculum may be assigned
by teachers. Mrs. Kim Sutherland is available to assist students as needed. |

The National Middle School Association states that
students have more changes between the ages of 10 and 14 than at any other
time of their lives, other than the first 18 months. Knowing who your children's
friends are, where they are, and what they are doing is important. Good
communication between student, school, and parent and helping students
negotiate problems in peer relations help the middle school experience
be more acceptable to all.
EAST CENTRAL MIDDLE SCHOOL GOALS
1. All ECMS students will demonstrate enhanced learning performances
and achievement time.
2. All ECMS students will enhance their responsibility for learning
over time.

Helpful Assignment Hint
Pocket folders - An inexpensive way for students to keep track
of various written assignments they need to complete is to take a 2-pocket
folder, available at any office supply store, and label the left side with
'To Do' and the right side with "Completed." They are ONLY allowed
to put works-in-progress in this pocket folder. Once the assignments have
been completed, the work can be transferred to the appropriate binders
or notebooks that the teacher may require.
